Residents of Misembe village, Shinyalu constituency Kakamega County are mourning after Laura Muhatia,15, allegedly poisoned herself after a quarrel with her mother, Adelaide Amukunga.
Laura who sat Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2020 exams and scooped 394 marks, had received a calling letter to join Kisumu Girl’s High School.
According to the preliminary investigations the minor poisoned herself with a chemical after she was allegedly mercilessly beaten by her mother on allegations that she refused to do cleaning as requested by her mother.
On the other hand, residents led by George Mutoko disputed the claim that the minor poisoned herself because she feared being arrested after her mother informed the police officers about her bad behavior.
“It’s my appeal to parents to have discussions with their children on their behaviours and advise them accordingly and solve the problems amicably,’’ he said.
