St Pauls Gekano steals the show at Nyamira County’s ball games

Nyamira County secondary schools ended their ball games successfully with St. Pauls Gekano stealing the show.

During the  Nyamira County Second Term Ball Games competition that were held at Nyambaria National School, Gekano trounced their host and long-time rival in both Rugby and Handball to qualify for the Lake Region Secondary Schools games to be held at Asumbi TTC in Homabay County.

Other schools that performd impressively during the competition include Ekenyoro Secondary School who dominated in both the girls’ and boys’ Volleyball and Basketball games respectively to earn a ticket to the regional competitions.

For the boys, Ekenyoro Secondary School Basketball team beat St. Kizito Nyansiongo Boys School 60-43 in a heated duel. It had earlier on thrashed Machuririati Secondary School 50-16 before throwing dust to St Paul’s Omonayo with the game finishing 40-17.

In the girls category, Ekenyoro Secondary School whipped St.Teresah Gekano Girls School 14-8 in Volleyball.

Speaking to Education News after the competition, Gekano Boys High School Chief Principal Mr. Albert Ombiro praised the teamwork displayed by his school’s teams and appreciated the work done by the games teachers.

He then thanked all participants for availing themselves and congratulated all the winners.

Mr. Ombiro expressed optimism in the school to perform exceptionally in both academics and extra curricular activities because they had already put in place sufficient strategies.

“For instance, we have improved all our pitches in order to create an enabling enviroment for both our boys and their trainers,” he said.
