Over 7,000 school going girls who conceived during the long period that children were at home due to COVID-19 pandemic in Siaya County resumed learning.
According to the Assistant County Commissioner for Boro Division in Alego/Usonga sub-county Isaac Kimani, the government has ensured that all the girls who got pregnant during the nine months period that schools were closed are allowed back to school.
He stated that in line with the constitutional provision for the right to education, he directed all schools to ensure that every child is allowed back to school.
Kimani, who spoke in Siaya town, stated that they had agreed with all school administrations to ensure that all the girls including those who are still pregnant and those who have already delivered are allowed back to school when the institutions resume.
The administrator reiterated that all of them were given room and arrangements made to ensure that even those with very little children are allowed to be in school.
He emphasized on the need for enhancement of girl-child education, and called on parents and guardians to ensure they educate their girls to guarantee a better future not only for them but for that whole society.
