A dormitory at Sameta Boys High School in Kisii County reportedly caught fire on Sunday afternoon, sparking concern among students, staff, parents, and education stakeholders.

The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of publication, and authorities are expected to launch investigations to determine what triggered the incident. The extent of the damage and whether there were any injuries had also not been immediately confirmed.

Emergency response teams and school administrators were assessing the situation as efforts continued to secure the affected area and account for all students.

National concern

The incident comes at a time when school safety has become a major national concern following a series of fire-related incidents in learning institutions across the country.

Just days ago, 16 students lost their lives following a devastating dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Senior Secondary School in Gilgil, Nakuru County, one of the deadliest school fire tragedies in recent years.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities having identified and arrested several suspects linked to the arson attack.
