The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Mr. Wilson Sossion has been asked to resign from the post or risk facing embarrassment in the union elections next month.
Led by the area Knut County branch chairman Alex Dunga, they said the noblest thing that Sossion can do is to resign rather than wait for humiliation at the ballot box.
“Union politics is not about constant wrangles and war with the government but about being able to dialogue with the employer and charting the best way forward for the teachers. We are tired and we must ensure transition takes place immediately,” said Dunga
He stated that as teachers from Siaya County they have unanimously resolved to support the current KNUT National Chairman Mr. Collins Oyuu for the position of the Secretary General.
Mr. Dunga who is seeking a position in union’s National Executive Council (NEC), made the remarks during a Knut meeting in Bondo town.
The County Executive Secretary Gilbert Ndolo Owuor lamented that the union has lost its glory due to Sossion’s bad leadership.
He said Oyuu is capable of reviving the union, noting that Sossion has completely run it down and they cannot allow him to continue serving in that position.
They were flanked by the Siaya County KNUT Treasurer Willis Odhach Achola who said they have joined the rest of the teachers from the entire region of Nyanza in endorsing Oyuu’s candidature.
