Two police officers are among the suspects who allegedly robbed a university student and his friend of Ksh 698, 000 at gunpoint in Juja, Kiambu County.

Benson Mutisya and Kennedy Gathathu police officers in Nairobi were yesterday arrested together with Mutenge Mbeti, 36, and Lewis Ndirangu Kariuki, 32 after a preliminary report from the police said they assaulted and robbed Robinson Mogaka, a third year student at Machakos University on July 31, 2023 while he was driving to Machakos after attending a ceremony earlier at Embu.

“On reaching Kenyatta Road in Juja, he was blocked by a white motor vehicle registration number KCX 965B.

Three men armed with a pistol handcuffed him and forced him to take them to his friend Abdulrahaman Juma’s house, which he did,” says the report.

Further, the suspects are said to have transferred Ksh85, 000 from Mogaka’s phone and another USD 4,300 equivalent to Ksh613, 000 from both complainants through Binance online transaction.

The suspects were apprehended when they tried to rob the victims again on August 2, 2023 after DCI officers got a tip off that the same people were again going to Abdullrahaman’s house and laid a trap.

Among the things the police officers recovered were a Jericho pistol S/No. KEKP 4433892, Huawei pocket phone radio, as well as the car which the suspects used.

The suspects are being held at Juja Police station awaiting arraignment in court for robbery.
