Students from Africa Nazarene University hold a peaceful protest in Ongata Rongai following the attack on one of their colleagues, demanding improved security and police patrols in the area.

A student from Africa Nazarene University is recovering at Kenyatta National Hospital after being attacked and robbed on Saturday night while returning home in Olekasasi, Ongata Rongai Ward, Kajiado County.

According to witnesses, the student was first taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised care. The university management confirmed that they provided an ambulance to facilitate the transfer and expressed hope for the student’s full recovery.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and students, who have raised concerns about the rising cases of insecurity in the area. On Tuesday, students held a peaceful protest demanding swift action from local authorities.

Samuel Gikundi, a student, criticised the police for alleged negligence and unprofessional conduct. He also called for installing streetlights to improve safety at night.

“We are tired of living in fear and getting home as early as 5 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. because of insecurity,” said Gikundi.

The protesters marched to the chief’s office and later to the Olekasasi Police Station, urging the police to increase patrols and address the growing security concerns in the area.
