Sixteen children were yesterday arrested by Kamagambo police officers for carelessly and aimlessly loitering in the streets.

Confirming the incident, Deputy County Commissioner Mr Joseph Satia said eight of the arrested children were presented before the Court of Law and the rest were taken by their respective parents.

Mr Satia urged parents to advise their children accordingly to reduce chances of getting into the wrong hands during this period of Covid-19 pandemic.

“The number of children who have been defiled and abused at the onset of Covid-19 pandemic has risen and this is as a result of parents not watching after their children hence prompting the arrest of these children,” said Satia.

He also called on parents to sensitize their children on the safety measures that they need to take to protect themselves from getting infected with Coronavirus for instance putting on face masks.

However, he urged residents of Rongo to adhere to the set safety protocols by the Ministry of Health on Covid-19 saying that failure to do that shall amount to arrest.

A total of forty nine adults were also arraigned before residents’ Magistrate Raymond Langat where thirty two pleaded guilty and were released on a fine of sh. 1000 and seventeen others released on cash bail of a similar amount pending mentioning on 12th August and hearing on 14th September.
