The Directorate of Veterinary Services has opened applications for internship placements for veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessionals, with a deadline of November 13, 2026.
The directorate, which falls under the State Department for Livestock Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, announced the vacancies in a public notice. Successful applicants are expected to begin their internships in January 2027.
The opportunity is open to eligible graduates who completed their studies in 2026 or earlier. According to the notice, the internship is a statutory requirement under sections 15(1) and 17(1) of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Act, No. 29 of 2011.

The programme will operate under three sets of rules. These are the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service, the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Regulations of 2013, and the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) Internship Guidelines.

Applicants must first hold temporary registration as a veterinary intern for 2026 from the KVB. They must also present a certificate of training at bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate level, obtained from a university or training institution recognised by the board. The notice lists degree qualifications as Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Science.
Beyond professional credentials, candidates must submit a range of personal and statutory documents. These include their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificates, a national identity card and a birth certificate. A Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) personal identification number (PIN) certificate and a valid certificate of good conduct are also required.
Applicants must further show proof of registration with the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). They must also hold personal accident insurance cover and a bank account in their own name. Two recent passport-size photographs complete the list.
The application process runs in two stages, and the order matters. Candidates must first register with the KVB as interns through the board’s website, www.kenyavetboard.or.ke.
Only after receiving the intern registration certificate may they apply to the Director of Veterinary Services. That application is made by filling in personal details through an online form at https://ee.kobotoolbox.org/x/usKyRfAj.

Placement dates for successful candidates will be communicated by email in due course, the notice states. Applicants are therefore advised to use email addresses they check regularly.

Those seeking clarification can write to the directorate’s internship office at infodvs@kilimo.go.ke, with a copy to vetinternship2026@gmail.com. The notice was issued by the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Livestock Development.
