Teachers' optimism over the finalisation of the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) is rising as the two-week timeline promised by President William Ruto during this month's Teachers' Day celebrations draws closer.
Speaking at the celebrations held at Kasarani Gymnasium on October 5, the Head of State assured teachers that the CPG process would be finalised within two weeks, according to remarks attributed to the Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The assurance has rekindled hope among teachers who have been waiting for clarity on the matter.
Several teachers who spoke to Education News said they had placed their full hopes in the President's assurance and were eagerly awaiting its realisation, expressing optimism that the timeline would mark a turning point in resolving the outstanding issues around the guidelines.

Teachers Seek Clarity on Career Pathways

For many educators, the process is about more than the publication of guidelines. According to the teachers, finalising the CPG would be an important step towards providing clarity on career advancement, professional growth and promotion opportunities within the teaching service. They want a system that sets out career pathways, promotion requirements, professional qualifications and the criteria used to determine advancement to higher job groups, along with a clear roadmap for implementation.

Attention Turns to Official Announcement

As the two-week period nears its end, teachers are closely monitoring developments, hoping the government will deliver on the commitment made on October 5. They will be looking for an official announcement confirming that the process has been completed, alongside clear information on how the guidelines will be implemented.

The coming days will determine whether the assurance given at Kasarani is followed by a formal conclusion to the process, with teachers hopeful that the matter will move from promises to a concrete resolution.
