State House Girls High School in Nairobi is undergoing a major infrastructural transformation as the institution prepares to accommodate rising enrolment and the demands of Senior School under the Competency-Based Education system.

The school, which began as a colonial-era sanatorium, has evolved into a prestigious girls' institution located a short distance from State House, Nairobi, with a growing reputation for academic excellence and leadership development.

The latest expansion has added 21 new classrooms, increasing the school's capacity to more than 1,700 learners across 24 instructional rooms.

The new facilities are expected to ease congestion that had intensified as enrolment increased and the school transitioned to the Senior School model.

The classrooms have been fitted with integrated digital systems, including television screens, as the institution moves towards technology-supported teaching and learning.

Three modern science laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics have also been constructed and are awaiting installation of equipment and official commissioning.

The laboratories will be equipped with modern safety features and specialised equipment to support learners taking Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pathways.

A fully networked computer laboratory is also part of the expansion and is expected to strengthen the teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and computer studies once commissioned.

The developments come at a time when schools across the country are racing to improve infrastructure to cope with the additional demands created by the rollout of Senior School.

At State House Girls, the expansion is expected not only to address the immediate challenge of overcrowding but also provide room for future growth as more cohorts transition into the new education structure.

Security has also been incorporated into the development, with the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration playing a role in supporting a secure and orderly learning environment.

The investment is expected to give the girls improved learning spaces while providing an environment where they can nurture their talents, pursue STEM and ICT-related disciplines and prepare for leadership and other responsibilities beyond school.

The institution's transformation marks another chapter in the evolution of State House Girls from its historical beginnings into a modern school seeking to match its facilities with the changing needs of learners.
