The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Makueni branch has cautioned teachers and school administrators against violating national examination regulations by keeping teachers in schools during the ongoing examination period.
In a notice dated November 4, 2026, the union said it was concerned by reports that some teachers were continuing to report to and remain in schools despite Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) guidelines restricting their presence during the administration of national examinations.
The branch said teachers risk disciplinary action if they disregard examination protocols or act on instructions that contradict official KNEC regulations.
KUPPET Makueni Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu reminded teachers, school administrators and other education stakeholders that examination regulations are binding and must be respected.
The union also put school heads on notice over issuing verbal or unofficial instructions that could place teachers in conflict with examination rules. It urged administrators to stop directing teachers to undertake duties that could expose them to disciplinary risk, insisting that those responsible for such decisions should be held accountable.
"Let KNEC regulate examination, let TSC protect teachers and let school administrators take responsibility for their decisions," Mr Kimeu said in the notice.
The notice was copied to the Makueni County Director of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the County Director of Education.
