Kibabii University names Prof. Inviolata Khasandi-Telewa new Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Kibabii University has appointed renowned scholar Prof. Inviolata Vicky Khasandi-Telewa as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Finance and Development (AFD), bringing on board an accomplished academic and seasoned university administrator.

Prof. Khasandi-Telewa takes over a docket at the heart of the university's operations, overseeing administration, human resources, financial management, ICT, performance management and institutional development.

Her appointment follows a competitive interview by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on July 28, 2026, and subsequent appointment by the Cabinet Secretary for Education on September 16, 2026. She will serve a five-year term, succeeding Prof. John Wanjala Makokha who had been acting in the position since March 2026.

The handover ceremony was presided over by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo.

Prof. Khasandi-Telewa joins Kibabii from Laikipia University where she is a Professor of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics. She rose to Associate Professor in 2016 and attained full professorship in May 2026.

Her career blends strong scholarship with senior university leadership. At Laikipia University, she served as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs between 2020 and 2021, Dean of the School of Humanities and Development Studies and Chairperson of the Department of Literary and Communication Studies.

She holds a PhD in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics from the University of Warwick (UK), a Master of Arts in English Language and Linguistics from Egerton University and a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from the University of Nairobi. Between 2023 and 2026, she furthered her international research experience as a Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Pennsylvania State University, USA.

Beyond teaching, Prof. Khasandi-Telewa has served on the Kenya National Education Board and held leadership positions in professional bodies, participating in national and international education, research and governance initiatives.

Her appointment comes at a time when public universities are under pressure to strengthen governance, ensure financial sustainability and improve service delivery.

Kibabii University has welcomed Prof. Khasandi-Telewa and expressed confidence that her wealth of experience will drive its transformation agenda.
