The Kanduyi National Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) Board has disbursed bursaries worth Sh30 million to students in Middle – Level Tertiary Colleges and Universities students from poor and humble backgrounds.
Addressing the press at the Constituency’s offices located at Kanduyi market centre, the area Legislator Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi noted that the funds aim to ensure that the learners continue their education undisrupted by paying for their School fees and fees for the internal examinations.
According to Wamunyinyi, the funds are not enough to cater for the education of the beneficiaries but it will aid one step at a time hence calling upon on heads of the institutions in concern and Boards of Management to ensure that the students remain in school by not sending them back home because of school fee arrears.
He urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies as education is th only equalizer between the rich and poor in the current society.
Some of the institutions that benefited from the funds include Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology whereby a total of 187 students were paid for fees to a tune of Shs1,300,000, 104, students from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology received Sh727,000, Bungoma Dicece ECDE College received Sh35,000 while Kibabii in University, 177 students had their tuition paid to a tune of Sh1,239,000 whereby each student will at least get Sh7000 from the bursary kitty.
Hon. Wamunyinyi noted that currently, the area has a total of 85 Public Secondary Schools and through the NG-CDF He has set aside a total Sh80 Million to aid in the infrastructural development of the schools in terms of building of more classrooms, science laboratories and ICT Hubs .
