The newly elected Kenya National Union of Teachers, (KNUT) Nakuru Branch Chairman, Peter Bii, has pledged to unite all members of the branch and work closely with KNUT officials to advocate for their collective interests.

Speaking at Afraha High School, Bii stated that Nakuru is one of the largest KNUT branches in Kenya, with thousands of members. He emphasized that members should fully enjoy the benefits of belonging to one of the country’s most prominent unions something he said can only be achieved through unity.

He added that the KNUT Nakuru Branch will prioritize teachers’ welfare and ensure favorable working conditions to enable them to perform their duties effectively at their respective stations.

On his part, newly elected KNUT Nakuru Assistant Executive Secretary Daniel Mwangi encouraged teachers in Nakuru to trust the union, noting that KNUT has championed teachers’ welfare and better working conditions for many decades.

He said all KNUT officials in Nakuru County will work as a team to ensure teachers’ needs are addressed, enabling them to perform effectively and improve the quality of learning for learners.

Other newly elected officials of the KNUT Nakuru Branch include Kipkoech Rotich (Branch Executive Committee -Keringet), Gedion Mwangi (Branch Executive Committee -Mauche), among others.

Elsewhere, KNUT Nakuru Executive Secretary Anthony Gioche urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to reconsider expanding the list of designated hardship areas within Nakuru County.

He mentioned Mbogo-ini Zone in Subukia Sub-county, Lower Solai and Makongeni Zone in Rongai Sub-county, and Upper Solai Zone in Nakuru North Sub-county as some of the areas that should be considered for hardship allowance.

“We were shocked to learn of the government’s plan to do away with hardship allowances in the mentioned areas, this is the most absurd policy to have ever been formulated,” said Gioche.
