Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nairobi branch Executive Secretary Macharia Mugwe has stressed the need to empower the union as he cast his net to the Deputy Secretary General seat in the forthcoming national elections.
Speaking to Education News recently in his Nairobi office, Mugwe said the union should be having a building in every county for effective operations.
“Executive Secretaries should not be suffering like that if Knut came up with a good strategic plan in every county,” noted. Mugwe.
Mugwe who seeks to oust the current DSG Hesbon Otieno, said his main intention is to bring teamwork in the head office and effectively deal with teachers issues.
He said that if elected, he would provide effective linkage between the teachers and the head office in addressing their grievances and work with all stakeholders.
“I would like to provide that leadership to work with all stakeholders because I have managed to work with all stakeholders in the branch including during my reign in office as Executive Secretary of the branch,” added Mugwe.
He added that he has had a good working relationship between him and both the Regional Directors of Education at the Ministry of Education and even the Teachers Service Commission, which has seen performance of schools in the region improve.
