The government plans to equip all Junior Secondary Schools with interactive smart boards as part of efforts to enhance digital learning and strengthen the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said 10,382 schools will receive the equipment during the first phase of the programme, while the remaining schools will be covered in a second phase, bringing the total target to more than 21,000 institutions nationwide.

Speaking during a visit to Hill School Senior School in Uasin Gishu County, the PS said the initiative reflects the government’s continued investment in technology-driven education.

“We’re also looking at all junior secondary schools. Some 10,382 of them across the country will receive smart boards in Phase One. In Phase Two, the remaining schools will also benefit,” he said.

Ololtuaa said the Ministry of Education remains committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum by providing schools with the necessary infrastructure and learning resources.

“The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Education, is very keen to ensure that the Competency-Based Education is implemented accordingly, and the processes to implement it are going on in the best way possible,” he said.

Priority projects for schools

The Principal Secretary further revealed that the ministry had received numerous requests for development projects from schools across the country and promised that implementation would be guided by priority needs and the availability of resources.

“I have already received a list of the projects you have requested. We will sit together with the school leadership and agree on the priority areas because we are serving the whole country,” Ololtuaa said.

Ololtuaa also encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and avoid behaviours that could compromise their future.

He singled out drug abuse, peer pressure and laziness as major obstacles to academic success, urging students to work hard and pursue their dreams with determination.
