Former Chief Justice David Maraga has called on young Kenyans to take their academic work seriously at all levels of education, saying education and skills development remain essential foundations for building responsible and productive lives.
Speaking during an International Youth Day engagement at Nyang’ori Mission Station, Maraga urged young people to approach their studies with discipline, commitment and a clear sense of purpose, encouraging them to remain focused from the earliest stages of education through secondary school, vocational training, college and university.
He said each level of learning plays a critical role in preparing young people for the future, and called on the youth to lead responsible lives guided by biblical teachings, with particular emphasis on character, discipline, integrity and personal responsibility.

Maraga further urged eligible young Kenyans to obtain voter registration cards, saying responsible citizenship includes active participation in the democratic process and making informed decisions on national leadership.
The message comes amid continuing concern over youth unemployment and the challenges many young Kenyans face in transitioning from education into employment or entrepreneurship.
Separately, the Ukombozi Movement has proposed a KSh300 billion supplementary budget under the #UkomboziPetition, aimed at creating opportunities for approximately three million unemployed youth through employment, enterprise development, vocational training and skills enhancement
