A 33 year old man is recuperating in hospital under police custody following injuries sustained from a beat-up by the public after being caught defiling minors.

Two minors aged 3 and 4 years are recuperating at the Marigat Sub County Hospital in Baringo County after being defiled at their home in Eldume location, Baringo South Constituency.

According to reports, the heinous act was committed by a 33-year-old male suspect over the weekend.

The two minors had been had been left home alone as the their parents went to the farm.

The suspect identified as Joshua Kasitet is also nursing injuries in the same facility as he narrowly escaped death after residents cornered him and subjected him to mob justice before he was rescued by the police.

Medics at Marigat sub-county hospital have said that the girls are in stable condition, but are still undergoing treatment for the physical and emotional trauma they have suffered.

“The minors are now in stable condition and may be discharged soon. The suspect has also been stabilized. We are collaborating with the police since this is a police case,” said Chrispine Ngelechei, the hospital’s medical superintendent.

Marigat sub-county police commandant David Kiptoo has said the suspect was being sought for an attempted robbery prior to the incident and will be arraigned in court once he is in a stable condition.

Kiptoo further assured residents that they had launched investigations and were piecing up evidence to be used against him for the attempted robbery and defilement charges.

“I urge members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. Mob injustice is against the law. This was an isolated case but very traumatizing from the condition the children were left in,” added Kiptoo.

Meanwhile, elders summoned the parents of the two girls who claim to have left the children under the care of a twelve-year-old girl.
