Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has confirmed that the county government has set aside Ksh 80 million for bursaries.
Speaking at Komarock in Matungulu sub county of Machakos county, Mwangangi noted that the disbursement will commence this week.
He called upon Members of the County Assembly to liaise with the government to ensure the deserving kids get the bursaries.
“From this week we will begin disbursing bursaries, as you go home know the county government has set aside 80 million shillings for the bursaries. Our MCA’s should work to ensure our kids don’t miss school due to lack of fees in all 40 wards,” he said.
Mwangangi also disclosed that the government was trying its best to provide food to schools through the feeding programme.
He noted that the programme was taking a lot of funds and plans are underway to incorporate primary schools.
“We would rather stop development projects to sustain the feeding programme, times are hard and the programme is very expensive but we won’t relent because we know how the situation is,” he said.
The former lawmaker also called upon the national government to come up with a plan that will ensure relief food is distributed to people who are facing starvation.
