Litein Boys’ candidates back for KCSE after weeks of uncertainty

Form Four candidates at Litein Boys High School in Kericho County are finally sitting their KCSE examinations after weeks of uncertainty, following a court directive that allowed them to resume studies while paying reduced damages over last term’s strike.

The 429 candidates had been sent home alongside other learners after the school administration demanded Ksh49,699 per student to cover losses from the unrest, which caused damage estimated at nearly Ksh100 million.

However, the High Court in Kericho intervened, slashing the charge to Ksh25,000 and permitting payments in three instalments. This ruling cleared the way for the candidates to return and prepare for the national exams, which began this week.

Principal Richard Sang confirmed that learning resumed under heightened security, with temporary classrooms and dormitories set up for the candidates.

“The boys are now settled and focused on their exams. We are doing everything possible to ensure they have a calm environment,” said Sang.

The rest of the 1,000 students will report back when schools reopen in January 2026, as the matter continues in court. The case will be mentioned next Wednesday for further directions.

The strike, which paralyzed learning at the institution, remains under investigation, but for now, the return of the candidates marks a moment of relief for both the learners and their parents, who had feared missing out on the national exams.
