Kisii MCA sets aside Ksh3M for student bursaries

MCA

Hundreds of parents and students turned up at Ibeno ward IEBC offices to register for bursary funds awarded by Member of County Assembly (MCA) Steve Arika.

Arika said that although he was overwhelmed by the large number of students seeking the kitty, his office had set aside Ksh3 million for bursaries in his ward and was talking to other stakeholders to add more funds.

He said the vetting of applicants was moved to polling centres to ensure only residents benefit after the disbursement committee realized that some applicants hailed from neighbouring wards.

Arika noted that the move will keep outsiders at bay and ensure all deserving cases receive presentable amount of money.

The MCA said that keeping students in school through issuance of bursaries promotes the government’s efforts to effect the 100 per cent transition policy.

He encouraged orphans and student needs students to apply subsequent bursaries in large numbers.
