Kaptebengwet Boys students sent home after night of unrest in Konoin, Bomet

Students of Kaptebengwet Boys High School in Konoin sub-county, Bomet County, have been sent home indefinitely following a night of unrest that disrupted learning at the institution.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday when students allegedly set fire on two mattresses inside one of the dormitories.

The fire was swiftly contained before it could spread to other sections of the dormitory, preventing a major disaster.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The unrest prompted the school administration to suspend learning and send students home as investigations into the cause of the disturbance continue.

Education officials and security agencies have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over a wave of unrest, dormitory fires and student strikes reported in learning institutions across the country in recent months.

Parents and guardians have been advised to await further communication from the school administration regarding the reopening of the school and the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
