Leaders from Bomet County have called for urgent dialogue among students, teachers, and parents as concerns grow over rising cases of unrest in schools across the country.
Led by Bomet Central Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Kilel and Kipsigis professional Michael Bongei, the leaders said restoring discipline in schools requires collective responsibility from all stakeholders.
Speaking at Nyaga Catholic Church in Mutarakwa Ward, Bomet Central sub county, the leaders urged parents, teachers and students to work together to address challenges facing learners and prevent further destruction of school property.
Kilel called on headteachers to embrace dialogue and create platforms where students can freely express their concerns.

He also urged parents to take an active role in guiding and mentoring their children noting that discipline begins at home.
Bongei on his side challenged parents to engage their children more frequently and suggested that schools invite parents to interact with learners as a way of easing tension and preventing unrest.
He further encouraged students to openly share issues affecting them with teachers, saying communication is key to finding lasting solutions.
“Everybody has a role to play — teachers, parents and students,” Bongei said.
He called on teachers to strengthen dialogue with learners instead of waiting for problems to escalate.
Their sentiments were also echoed by a local leader Gilbert Rono, who urged all stakeholders to join hands and ensure the growing menace of school unrest comes to an end.
