The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme targeting secondary school girls in Migori County, in a move aimed at strengthening participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
According to a memo from the Migori County Director’s office, the initiative; dubbed the ENGAGE Project, will be implemented by the CEMASTEA in partnership with the University of Nairobi, the University of California, San Francisco, and other collaborating universities.
The memo urges school administrators to identify and support eligible learners.
“Please bring to the attention of eligible Form Three girls, the ENGAGE Project, a Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme implemented by CEMASTEA in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, UCSF, and partner universities,” the memo reads in part.

The programme specifically targets Form Three girls who demonstrate strong aptitude in Mathematics and a keen interest in Data Science and AI.
“The programme targets girls with strong aptitude in Mathematics and interest in Data Science and AI,” the memo further states.
Migori County education officials have directed Sub-County Directors and school heads to ensure eligible learners are informed and supported to apply ahead of the July 31 deadline.
Established by the Ministry of Education in 2004, CEMASTEA was initially mandated to strengthen the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science through in-service teacher training. Over time, it has expanded its scope to include learner-focused initiatives aimed at nurturing interest in STEM disciplines.
The ENGAGE Project is part of broader efforts to equip young learners—particularly girls—with digital skills relevant to emerging technologies such as data science and artificial intelligence.
