Kakamega School, popularly known as the Green Commandos, has departed for Kiambu ahead of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Secondary Schools Ball Games set to be held at M-PESA Academy.
The early departure is part of the team’s strategy to give players enough time to acclimatize to the new environment before the competition begins.
Head coach Enock Lucheveleli said the decision to travel several days before the reporting date was aimed at helping the squad settle and adapt to the atmosphere at the venue.
“We want our players to adapt to the environment and the atmosphere early enough so that they are fully prepared for the tournament,” said Lucheveleli.
The Green Commandos are among the teams expected to challenge for top honours at the national championships, having enjoyed an impressive campaign during the regional qualifiers.
National games begin in August
According to the KSSSA schedule, all qualified schools are expected to report to M-PESA Academy on July 31, 2026.
The official opening ceremony will be held on August 2, with the tournament finals scheduled for August 6.

Schools from across the country will battle for national titles in various ball games, with outstanding teams earning the opportunity to represent Kenya at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games.
