The Catholic Diocese of Kitale has unveiled fresh strategies aimed at enhancing academic standards and strengthening faith formation in its sponsored primary schools following a consultative meeting between the Diocesan Director of Education, Fr Paul Sunguti, and headteachers.
The education forum brought together administrators from Catholic-sponsored primary schools across the diocese to review the state of education, harmonise policy implementation and chart a common course towards improved learning outcomes and spiritual development.
Speaking during the meeting, Fr Sunguti underscored the Church’s commitment to providing holistic education by nurturing both academic excellence and Christian values among learners.
Parents urged to guide learners during holiday
With schools having closed for the August holiday, the Diocesan Director of Education appealed to parents and guardians to take an active role in safeguarding and mentoring their children during the break.
He urged families to ensure learners remain disciplined, safe and engaged in productive activities as they prepare for the next school term.
“Parents remain the first educators of their children. The school holiday should be an opportunity to reinforce moral values, discipline and faith at home,” Fr Sunguti said.
He emphasised the importance of cooperation between schools, families and the Church in ensuring learners receive holistic formation beyond academic instruction.
The meeting also reviewed key programmes lined up for Catholic educators within the diocese.
According to Pius Kemoi, Headteacher of Tartar Comprehensive School, the deliberations focused on preparations for a two-day National Catholic Teachers’ Conference scheduled to begin on August 18, 2026.
Kemoi said the conference will bring together Catholic teachers from across the country to deliberate on emerging issues in education, strengthen professional collaboration and promote the mission of Catholic-sponsored schools.
He added that the meeting resolved to strengthen networking among Catholic teachers from parish to diocesan level in an effort to foster unity, professionalism and effective delivery of Catholic education.
Headteachers back education initiatives
The headteachers lauded Fr Sunguti for providing leadership and steering education programmes aimed at promoting academic excellence, ethical leadership and spiritual formation in Catholic-sponsored institutions.
They expressed confidence that the resolutions reached during the meeting would enhance collaboration among schools, improve learner performance and reinforce the Catholic Church’s role in nurturing responsible and value-driven citizens.

The initiatives are expected to strengthen coordination among Catholic-sponsored schools while ensuring academic achievement goes hand in hand with the moral and spiritual formation of learners.
