Justice Martha Koome: Prof Marangu is my role model

Former African Nazarene University Vice-Chancellor Professor Leah Marangu are among the top persons that have assisted to shape Lady Justice Martha Koome’s life as role models throughout her judicial service that spans 33 years.

Lady Justice Koome, during the ongoing interviews in search of the next Chief Justice stated that through Prof. Marangu’s life she learnt to balance between time for family and her profession.

Prof. Marangu retired in 2017 from VC position of African Nazarene University after being at helm for 21 years and also as the first university’s female professor, who remained a role model for women in academia and helped create career paths for women.

 Prof. Marangu has been recognized globally for her efforts, receiving 20 national and international awards for leadership. She received two head of state commendations — the Silver Star of Kenya and the Moran of the order of the Burning Spear.

Prof. Marangu was also awarded the Women Leadership Award by the World Women Leadership Congress and Awards in Mumbai, India, as well as the Global Peace Strengthening Family Award by Global Peace.

 In addition, she received the Maggie Sloan Crawford Role Model Award from Olivet Nazarene University for her efforts on issues related to women and girls.
