John Matui, a reverend from Bungoma County, Kenya, has defied all odds to achieve academic success despite dropping out of school in 1991 due to lack of fees. Born on August 24, 1974, in Kaptama location, Mt Elgon Subcounty, Matui’s determination and resilience have led him to attain a Master’s degree in Religion from Africa Nazarene University.
Matui’s educational journey was interrupted in 1991 when he dropped out of school due to financial constraints. However, in 2009, he registered as a private candidate for the KCSE exam, motivated by the desire to better his future. Inspired by the “Kick of Team” initiative led by Andrew Ng’andil, the then headteacher of Kaptama Primary School, Matui enrolled for a Diploma in Theology at African Theological Seminary.
He subsequently pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Theology at the same institution and later earned a Master’s degree in Religion from Nazarene University, graduating in 2020. Matui’s academic achievements are a testament to his unwavering commitment to his faith and his community.
