Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Vice Chancellor Prof Victoria Wambui Ngumi has urged incoming first-year students to remain focussed and prioritize their academic journey as they begin their studies at the university.

Speaking to the freshers at the conclusion of a week-long orientation exercise at the university’s main campus in Juja, Kiambu County, the VC emphasized the significance of discipline and goal-setting to achieve academic success.

“Your decision to join this great university reflects your commitment to advancing your education. As you begin this new chapter, it is vital that you set clear, achievable goals and stay focussed on your aspirations. Remember, the moment you lose sight of your pursuit of success, your dreams begin to fade,” said Prof Ngumi.

She further urged the new students to take care of their health by being being aware of emerging diseases like Monkeypox and HIV/AIDS, stressing the importance of making informed decisions to safeguard their future.

On his part, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Production and Extension, Prof Jackson Kwanza, highlighted the importance of research in the students’ academic lives.

He encouraged them to take advantage of the research opportunities available at the university, noting that research is a critical component of their education and future careers.
