A female KCSE candidate at Boro Secondary School in Alego/Usonga Sub-county fell ill this week and died shortly after with just a day to complete her examinations.
The girl had suddenly felt unwell, prompting urgent medical attention but passed on while undergoing treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.
Siaya County Director of Education (CDE) Mbugua Kabaki said the student sat all her papers until Monday as she returned home and reportedly fell ill before she was rushed to the county hospital.
He said the girl’s mother reported the matter to the school administration on Tuesday to see if arrangements could be made for her to do the remaining papers in hospital. Upon the principal’s visit, her situation was worsening since she was already on Oxygen support.
Unfortunately when the principal returned to school, the hospital called to relay the sad news that she had passed on.
The CDE, who confirmed the incident, stated that the girl is said to have had a history of sickness throughout the third term.
Her body is lying at the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary to await post mortem.
