There was grief at Omoringamu village on Wednesday when a Grade Four child drowned at the killer Omogonga River in Kisii County.
According to the residents, the victim fell from Omosasa foot bridge as he tried to cross it and joined his father, a pastor, at the other side of the river while heading to an event.
“The minor was on his way to join his father in the ongoing Christian Crusade,” an eye witness said.
The police from Ogembo retrieved the body near Ogembo town, two kilometres from where he drowned.
The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for postmortem as burial arrangements are underway.
Kisii County Director of education Philip Chirchir, cautioned parents against leaving their children unguarded during this ongoing heavy rain season in the region.
“Let our parents know that our children are in the April holiday that is associated with heavy downpours and take their total control in protecting the young ones,” he said.
The bizarre death comes hardly a fourth night since two cousins drowned in the same flooded Omogonga River as they played near its banks.
