An 11-year girl died on Sunday evening by hanging self in Kalie, Matungulu sub County of Machakos County.
The incident was confirmed by Matungulu sub county police commander Peter Omondi, who told Education News that the girl hanged herself on the rafters of their kitchen
At the time of the incident, her parents were not home and the Grade Five pupil had been left with her siblings.
“The scene was visited by police and it was established that one Peace Ndanu, a juvenile and pupil at Nguluni Township Primary School had committed suicide. The incident took place when both her parents were not at home,” said the police boss.
The police boss said that the reason why the girl decided to take her life is still a mystery to the family but the circumstances are under investigation.
He condemned the act stating that it is painful for a young child to die in such a way.
The body of the girl was moved to Patjud Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
