- Government has introduced a four-week training programme for public primary and junior school administrators.

Public primary and junior secondary school administrators across the country will undergo a four-week mediation and preventive security training programme aimed at curbing conflict and improving discipline in learning institutions.
In a circular issued to regional, county and sub-county directors of education, Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa directed headteachers and their deputies to register for the Jukwaa la Wasomi Mediation and Preventive Security Training Programme.
“The purpose of this letter is therefore to invite all Head Teachers and Deputy Head Teachers of Public Primary Schools and Junior Secondary Schools to register through www.jukwaalawasomi.co.ke and participate in the forthcoming Jukwaa la Wasomi Mediation and Preventive Security Training Program in accordance with the attached training schedule,” reads the document.
While the full training package costs KSh70,000 per participant, a 75 per cent scholarship under the initiative covers most of the cost, leaving school heads to pay the remaining KSh17,500.
Programme targets safer schools
The initiative was finalised following a consultative meeting between the Ministry of Education and the national executive councils of both the Kenya Comprehensive Schools Heads Association (KECSHA) and the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA).
According to the Ministry, the programme equips school heads with practical skills in dispute resolution, negotiation and preventive security to foster safer school environments and promote national cohesion.
The four-week hybrid course combines three weeks of online instruction with an intensive three-day practical boot camp, allowing administrators to complete the coursework without abandoning their daily school management duties.
Successful participants will graduate in two cohorts, with the first graduation scheduled for September 21 to coincide with the International Day of Peace, while the second will be held on December 9 to mark the 11th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security.

The multi-agency programme is spearheaded by the Universities and Colleges Students’ Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK) through the Ministry of Interior, alongside the Executive Office of the President, the Judiciary, and the Ministries of Education and Health.
