Schools in Ganze Sub County in Kilifi County have been hit hard by teachers’ shortage, Education News has reliably learnt.
Speaking to Education News from Ganze shopping centre recently, area legislator Teddy Mwambire urged the government to recruit more teachers and deploy them to the sub county to enhance effective teaching and learning.
‘The government recently conducted interviews but only 15 teachers were deployed to the sub county. The number is not enough compared to the ever increasing number of school children in the area,’ Mwambire said.
He attributed dismal performance in national exams to lack of adequate teachers arguing that few teachers could not cope with the children population in schools.
He assured parents in the constituency that the government will soon dispatch foodstuffs to primary schools to enable children to learn effectively.
‘Many children do not go to school due to lack of food both at school and at home. The situation will lower education levels if drastic measures aren’t taken in good time.
The legislator also disclosed that lack of rains in the constituency had caused severe hunger, thus forcing school children to drop out of school.
