Male parents have been reminded to play an active role in the upbringing of the boy –child in order to build a firm foundation to rear them as responsible men with positive value system.
The chairman of Mjini Primary School in Murang’a George Kamau observed that the contemporary male parent has abdicated the crucial role to shape the character of the boy child, during early stages in their life.
Men, he says, have left the boy -child to wade through the formative years without wise counsel and guidance required to mould them as effective and strong men with values to respond to challenges in life.
Kamau added that boys are increasingly becoming marginalised compared to girls and are being left out in empowerment.
He said as a result the current generation of men is not able to cope with emerging challenges concerning household management, finances and handling marriage issues.
He spoke while receiving a cheque for Sh800,000 from Kiharu CDF kitty presented by local Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
The money will be used to repair classrooms, staff room and buy desks to improve facilities in the school.
The treasurer of the Board of Management, Hamid Njuguna said the institution needs infrastructures to create an enabling learning environment for pupils and teachers.
Hamid said the school requires financial support to provide requisite infrastructures to improve quality of learning.
Njuguna called on parents to contribute towards the school projects for the benefit of their children.
He urged them to embrace teamwork and take a keen interest in the management of the school to promote academic performance.
The institution caters for children from poor households from Mjini slums within Murang’a municipality.
MP Nyoro pointed out that CDF is financing projects in schools to purchase necessary facilities geared to boostbetter teaching.
He explained this is expected to tackle obstacles which hinder schools in the constituency from doing well at national examinations.
