The former principal of Riambase DEB Secondary School will be laid to rest on Friday at his home in Siaya County.
The late Solomon Abayo suddenly fell ill two weeks ago and was admitted to Hema Hospital in Kisii County where he died of Covid-19 according to the hospital report.
Speaking to Education News on Tuesday, Riambase Secondary deputy principal, Mr. Owino regretted that his principal died before witnessing the good 2020 KCSE results from the school.
”He had led the teachers to prepare the candidates well despite the hard circumstances but death snatched him before he could see his harvest,” said Mr. Owino.
Riambase DEB secondary school was among the top schools that posted impressive results from Kisii County.
According to the deputy principal, they registered a total of 460 candidates. Out of these, 207 were girls.
The school achieved a mean score of 8.2 points up from 7.8 in 2019. They started with grade A- that had 2 students. In grade B+, there were 34 candidates as 143 students got grade B plain. Those with B- were 174 and 90 students had a C+. The last grade in the school was C plain that hosted 17 candidates.
The deputy principal attributed the good performance to good discipline from students, good leadership from the departed principal and co-operation from the parents.
He appealed to the students and teachers to be resilient as they mourn their departed principal and collect themselves to continue with the school’s tradition of academic excellence.
