Varsity students in Kisii cautioned against meddling in KTDA elections

Bomachoge Borabu Constituency University Students Association has appealed for peace to prevail during the election of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) directors of Ogembo in Kisii County.

Led by their interim chairman David Nyangwono, they cautioned their students against participating in the exercise which might compromise the results.

“This exercise is carried majorly among our parents who are tea farmers. Let us give them respect as they choose the leaders of their own choice,” he said.

One of the contestants, , thanked the students for taking a passive role in the campaigns and lauded them for guiding their parents to make wise decisions in the elections.

He listed some of the achievements he made during his first three years in the office which includes sponsoring students from poor homes to access education and providing shelter for the orphaned children and appealed to farmers to re-elect him to accomplish the big development plans for them.

Riendo who is a retired high school deputy Principal, said if re-elected, he will use his massive experience in administration to lead Eberege factory to greater prosperity.

His sentiments were echoed by the outgoing Ogembo tea factory chairman Ombasa Omweno who also represents Boochi- Tendere zone.

Ombasa, a former District Commissioner with a rich experience in administration expressed optimism of winning seat of tea factory directorship for the second time.

He said that during his tenure, he led the factory to improved tea collection from various buying centres as a result of championing for purchase of additional vehicles to transport tea leaves.

He has also improved the price of tea from KSh14 to KSh27 a kilo.

“We have planned good things for you. Re-elect me and my Board of Directors unanimously and you will enjoy the benefits of your tea produce led by honesty hands,” he said.

Current directors who are defending their seats from Ogembo tea factory include Winter Mogaka from Boochi Borabu zone and Enosh Anyona from South Mugirango zone.

The elections which are expected to end today evening is led by officials from Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The elections were supposed to kick off at 7am but were forward to 11am.
