Teachers in Siaya County have strongly condemned their Nairobi counterparts who stormed the KNUT national offices to demand the removal of nominated MP Wilson Sossion as the union’s Secretary General.
A section of the teachers from Nairobi County stormed the offices to demand the exit of Mr. Sossion arguing that he cannot continue serving as a trade union official after having been nominated to Parliament.
This has, however, been dismissed by Siaya teachers led by KNUT Siaya County branch Executive Secretary Gilbert Ndolo Owuor who stated that they don’t support the idea. He said the few teachers from Nairobi cannot purport to talk for the over 260,000 teachers of Kenya.
He stated that as far as they are concerned Sossion has made great achievement for the teachers of this country, noting that he is the only KNUT Secretary General who sacrificed to get the current Collective Bargain Agreement.
Mr. Ndolo, who was addressing journalists at their Bondo sub-branch offices in Bondo town, wondered why it is only Sossion who is being victimized yet there are a lot of trade union officials in parliament and their union members are not complaining.
The Executive Secretary cited example of Kuppet national Chairman Mr. Omboko Milemba who is even an elected MP for Emuhaya and his union members are not complaining, and, therefore, pleaded with the teachers to continue supporting Sossion.
He expressed fears that they may lose all the achievements made by Sossion should they effect their threats to remove him from the post.
