Embattled Alliance Girls High School teacher, Peter Albert Ayiro, has resigned following serious allegations of sexual misconduct and grooming that reportedly span over two decades.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Ayiro cited intense public pressure, cyberbullying, and threats to his personal safety as reasons for his immediate departure.

“This decision has not come easily,” he wrote. “I continue to endure evil, monstrous and persistent cyberbullying, threats of physical harm, public humiliation and even being ostracized from my church.” Reads part of the letter.

Ayiro, who has served in the teaching profession for 26 years, described the accusations as false and damaging to his reputation. He said the ordeal had taken a toll on his mental health, career, and social standing. “This has been an attack on my character, career and social standing, putting me under great stress and strain,” he added.

The allegations, which surfaced recently, have sparked widespread concern, with claims of abuse and misconduct reportedly dating back more than 20 years. While investigations are ongoing, Ayiro’s resignation marks a significant development in the unfolding case.

In his letter, Ayiro expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a teacher, stating that his time in the profession had offered him invaluable experience and personal growth. He also urged the Commission to uphold fairness and transparency in its dealings with staff.

As part of his exit, Ayiro confirmed that he had paid the equivalent of one month’s salary in lieu of notice and requested guidance on clearance procedures. “Kindly acknowledge receipt of this resignation, and please advise on the necessary clearance and exit procedures,” he wrote.

The TSC has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the resignation.
