Committed to women’s empowerment, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has donated 20 sewing machines to tailoring students in what he described as bottom up approach to improve lives and livelihood of the girl child.

The MP who is a top ally of Deputy President William Ruto, the proponent of bottom up economy made the donation to students from Girlkind Kenya, a community based organization in Garissa town.

Duale lauded Girlkind Kenya for doing a good job for women and empowering youth to be self-reliant. Ruto too had been pushing for the same bottom up approach during his campaigns, saying he is committed to uplifting the livelihoods of the poor and the needy, defending the approach, saying the poor have been neglected for too long with the trickle down approach system of country’s economy.

Duale was in attendance for the graduation ceremony of 20 students from Girlkind in Garissa town.

“I have donated a sewing machine to each student who graduated and I have given them a small amount of money to kick off their business. Indeed this is part of bottom up economy,’’ said Duale.

The former house majority leader said he was in the frontline of doing more to his constituents.
