There was drama at Amasago Senior School in Nyaribari Chache Constituency on Saturday when students briefly blocked the road and demanded that Kisii Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri address them.
The incident occurred after Senator Okenyuri joined other leaders and congregants for the opening and consecration of the new Amasago Parish by Bishop Joseph Okemwa Mairura of the Kisii Diocese. As her motorcade passed near the school, learners rushed to the roadside and surrounded her vehicle, chanting and asking her to visit the school.
Some students jokingly asked why she was not wearing their school uniform, noting that she had previously worn school uniforms during visits to other schools.
Senator encourages learners
Moved by their enthusiasm, Senator Okenyuri alighted from her vehicle and addressed the students. She urged them to remain calm, disciplined, and focused on their education.
She reminded them of the humble backgrounds many of them came from and encouraged them to work hard in their studies, saying quality education remains one of the surest ways to transform families and communities.
The Senator, an alumna of Maasai Mara University, promised to return to the school for a dedicated session with learners.
“In God’s own planned time I shall come,” she said.
She told the students she would return to motivate, mentor, and counsel them on education, discipline, career aspirations, and life choices.
The excited learners later took selfies with the Senator before she proceeded with her programme.
