Friends School Bokoli in Bungoma County has recorded its best Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) performance in 15 years, posting a mean grade of C (6.425 points) for the 2025 cohort.

The improvement, up from a C- (5.411) in 2024, reflects the school’s steady academic progress and renewed focus on teaching and student performance.

A total of 332 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examination, up from 271 candidates the previous year. Of these, 164 candidates attained the minimum university entry grade, marking a significant increase in the number of learners qualifying for higher education.

Deputy Principal in charge of Academics Leonard Barasa described the results as historic, noting that the school had not recorded such performance levels over the past decade and a half.

“The school has never produced such good results for the last 15 years. This outcome reflects consistent academic supervision, improved learner discipline, and commitment from the teaching staff,” Barasa said.

Analysis of the grade distribution shows improved performance across the mid and upper grades, with notable gains recorded in the C+, C, and B- categories.

The school also reported positive outcomes in co-curricular activities, with volleyball and rugby teams posting a mean grade of C+, handball attaining C+, and soccer recording a C mean, pointing to balanced student development.

School administrators said measures have been put in place to sustain the upward trajectory, including strengthened academic monitoring and learner mentorship programmes.
