Bomet County is set to receive 240 interactive smart boards for public Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) as the government accelerates the implementation of digital learning under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa announced the development while speaking during the handover of a new school bus to Tenwek High School in Bomet County.

Ololtuaa said the initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to equip learners with digital literacy skills and prepare them for a technology-driven future.

He noted that the rollout of smart boards has received strong support from President William Ruto’s administration, which has prioritised digital transformation in the education sector.

According to the PS, the devices will enhance classroom instruction by making lessons more interactive, engaging and learner-centred.

240 schools to benefit

Ololtuaa revealed that Bomet County will receive 240 smart boards together with accompanying tablets, which will be distributed to Junior Secondary Schools across the county.

The equipment is expected to improve teaching and learning by enabling real-time interaction between teachers and learners while exposing students to modern digital tools.

According to the PS, each digital learning package comprises an interactive smart board and tablets designed to support classroom instruction, strengthen digital literacy and enhance learner participation.

“The government is committed to ensuring every learner acquires the digital skills required in the 21st century. These smart boards will transform our classrooms into interactive learning spaces and support effective implementation of Competency-Based Education,” said Ololtuaa.

He urged school administrators and teachers to embrace the technology and integrate it into everyday classroom instruction to maximise its impact.

The announcement comes as the government continues investing in education infrastructure and digital technology to improve learning outcomes and ensure equitable access to quality education across the country.

The smart board programme is expected to significantly enhance digital learning in Bomet’s Junior Secondary Schools, equipping learners with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
