Residents of Samichi village in Bumula constituency, Bungoma County woke up to sad news after a form two student committed suicide inside her boyfriend’s house.

The 16 year old student at Naburereya Secondary School had been in a love affair with a casual worker.

The deceased’s neighbours and area residents described her as a humble and hardworking girl.

One of the neighbors, Salome Nanjala, said that the girl visited the man on Sunday evening and they spent the night together. The following morning, the man left the girl in the house and went to attend to his duties.

Nanjala stated that the deceased’s mother visited the man’s landlord and told him about the missing girl whom she suspected had locked herself in her boyfriend’s house.

“The girl’s mother threw abuses at her daughter, whom she hadn’t seen then left,” said Nanjala.

The neighbours were forced to open the metallic door after becoming suspicious of why the girl had not gone to school. They were shocked to find the girl’s body hanging on a rope.

“After receiving the news of her demise, the mother rushed to the house, untied the rope and walked out with it to an unknown destination,” said Richard Wafula, a neighbor.

Kabula location chief Kundu Mwanja confirmed the news and asked parents to counsel their teenage children.

Security officers from Bungoma South police station picked the body and took it to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
