A fire whose origin was not immediately established razed down a dormitory at St Mary’s Girls high school located in Thigio, Ndeiya sub-county, Kiambu County on Saturday night.
According to reports, the terrible incident occurred while the learners were still in their classes for evening preps.
Police and firefighters rushed to the institution where they managed to contain the fire and also evacuated the students to safety.
Deputy County Commissioner of Ndeiya Sub-County, Stanley Mutua, noted that the fire gutted down a dormitory that accommodates over 90 students.
He confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties reported since the fire started at around nine o’clock and all learners were still in their classes for night preps.
“There are some that were traumatized by the occurrence. We have called doctors who have administered first aid and also attended to those with asthma complications,” he stated.
However, the learners lost all their property in the fire and were further forced to spend the night in the cold.
In a similar occurrence, police are investigating a fire incident in Mt Elgon where it has been reported that students of Kapsokwony Boys High School burnt down a building at the institution.
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa condemned the action and asked the relevant authorities to intervene and make sure that the perpetrators of the heinous acts are nabbed.
