Kisii University has apologised to students after a system malfunction triggered random outstanding fee balance messages, causing panic and confusion among learners.

Kisii University has officially apologised to students following confusion and panic caused by a system malfunction that sent random outstanding fee balance messages to learners.

In a communication issued to students, the university acknowledged that the messages were triggered by a technical glitch within the institution’s fee management system.

The error left many students worried after receiving unexpected notifications demanding payment of balances they did not recognise.

The university has since urged students to remain calm, ignore the erroneous messages and continue paying only their known and verified household fee balances as previously communicated.

The incident sparked frustration among students, many of whom complained about recurring problems with the university’s online portal and digital systems.

Some students said the latest mix-up disrupted their studies and caused unnecessary anxiety, especially for those who had already cleared their fees.

 ICT systems

This is not the first time the institution has faced criticism over system failures.

Students have in the past raised concerns about delays, portal malfunctions, missing records and difficulties accessing academic services online.

The latest incident has renewed debate over the reliability of the university’s ICT infrastructure, with students questioning whether there is sufficient technical manpower to manage the systems effectively.

Despite the criticism, students welcomed the university’s apology and called for urgent improvements to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The university administration is now expected to work on stabilising the students’ portal and restoring confidence among learners who heavily rely on the digital systems for fee payments, registration and academic services.
