Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has called on school leavers to use their skills to become responsible content creators instead of using their smartphones to spread destructive information on social media.

The Governor was speaking in Kisii Town during a meeting with youths involved in urban music, Gospel music, comedy and digital content creation.

Impactful content

He said young people have the talent and energy to build successful online brands if they focus on creating content that educates, entertains and inspires society.

According to the Governor, social media can become a powerful source of income when used responsibly, but turns destructive when used to spread negativity and hate.

Governor Arati encouraged the youths to identify specific areas where they can add value, noting that creators who focus on clear niches such as music, comedy, Gospel or storytelling are more likely to build loyal audiences.

He observed that consistency and quality are more important than chasing overnight viral fame, and urged the creators to continuously improve their skills in filming, editing and storytelling.

Recording studios

The Governor further revealed that the Kisii County Government has established modern recording studios to support young creatives.

He asked the youths to take advantage of the facilities to produce quality content that can improve their economic and social well-being.

According to Arati, the studios were established to provide creators with access to professional equipment that can enhance the quality of their productions and make them more competitive in the industry.

Source of income

Governor Arati also noted that content creation can open doors to multiple streams of income through advertisements, brand partnerships and direct support from fans.

He advised young people to treat content creation as a serious profession, learn audience engagement skills and avoid being manipulated by politicians to spread divisive messages online.

The Governor concluded by saying Kisii County has many talented young people capable of turning their smartphones into tools for building careers and transforming their lives.
