A 42-year-old trained P1 teacher from Baringo Central has made an emotional appeal to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), asking the Commission to consider him for employment after years of waiting without securing a teaching position.
Joseph Kurgat, a resident of Kakwane Village in Lelmen Location, Salawa Division, says he has remained hopeful despite spending many years seeking a posting in a public school.
He is now urging the Commission to give him an opportunity to serve Kenyan learners before reaching retirement age.
Kurgat said the prolonged wait for employment has placed a heavy burden on his family, noting that as a husband and father, he has struggled to provide for his loved ones while remaining committed to his teaching profession.

“I have never lost hope of serving as a teacher. I humbly appeal to the Teachers Service Commission to consider my case and allow me to contribute to the education of Kenyan children before I retire,” he said.
Long wait for employment
His appeal comes at a time when many trained teachers across the country continue to wait for employment opportunities despite being qualified and registered.
Concerns have also been raised over the increasing number of older trained teachers who have remained unemployed for years as recruitment opportunities remain limited.
Kurgat has appealed to the Commission to show compassion by considering experienced and long-serving unemployed teachers during future recruitment exercises.
