- DCI detectives have launched a manhunt for five KMTC students linked to the murder of a final-year student at the Nairobi Campus.
- A postmortem ruled out suicide and established that the victim died from severe head injuries and manual strangulation.
- The college says it is cooperating fully with investigators as police appeal for information on the suspects.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are pursuing five Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students suspected of murdering their fellow student, Anne Odhiambo Adhiambo, following a violent confrontation at the institution’s Nairobi Campus.
Anne, a 29-year-old final-year student pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, was found dead on July 7, 2026, in Room 220 at Mary Griffin Hostel.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident began on the morning of July 7 when Anne left her room on the upper floor, reportedly heading to church.
Along the way, she encountered another female student, whom she accused of stealing and wearing her pair of trousers.
Police say the confrontation quickly escalated before Anne was allegedly lured into a room on the lower floor, where five female students reportedly assaulted her.
Detectives review CCTV footage
Homicide detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from the hostel to establish how Anne’s body was later found back in her own room on the upper floor after the alleged attack.
A postmortem conducted at Nairobi Funeral Home on July 10 ruled out earlier claims circulating on social media that Anne had died by suicide.
The examination revealed multiple internal injuries, severe head trauma caused by a blunt object and signs consistent with manual strangulation.
Pathologists also established that her brain had swollen due to a lack of oxygen.
Additional findings included bleeding from the nose, black marks around the tongue and bite marks on her abdomen.
Police launch manhunt
DCI homicide detectives based at Kasarani have processed the crime scene and launched a manhunt for the five suspects, who allegedly fled the campus shortly after the incident.
KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr Kelly Oluoch confirmed that the institution has provided investigators with all relevant security records, including CCTV footage and security logs, to support the investigation.
He said the college is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies and expressed condolences to Anne’s family as investigations continue.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspects to report to the nearest police station or contact the DCI.

No arrests had been made by the time of publication, and investigations remain ongoing.
